El Paseo de los Monumentos
work-in-progress by Monica Rodriguez & Ryan S Jeffery
A short video that portraits the avenue of civic monuments which stretch behind the Capital Building of San Juan, Puerto Rico. Constructed over a period that spans nearly a century, each of the monuments commemorates a particular event within Puerto Rico’s history and also speaks to the Island’s colonial relationship with the United States. A colony of the United States since 1898, Puerto Rico remains an unincorporated territory of the United States – a territory that belongs to, but it is not part of the United States.
